New student orientation is a crucial part of preparing you for success at ASU.

This free, interactive course, designed for new ASU students, will help you get acclimated to the ASU Online learning environment and show you the resources you can utilize to become a successful online student at ASU.

Choosing the right course

ASU 11 - Created for all new online students. This section introduces you to our learning platform, familiarizes you with My ASU, helps you manage your time, provides you an overview of all the support resources available and provides you with some study strategies.

ASU 42 - Created for all our new military and veteran students, ASU 42 helps connect you resources available to our veterans and benefit eligible family members.

How to register for online orientation

Now that you have been admitted into ASU, select the week that best fits your schedule. It is best to complete orientation at least a couple of weeks before starting your first credit bearing course. Here’s how you can sign up for online orientation:

  1. Log into My ASU
  2. Click on the task in your To-Do list called "Connect: ASU Orientation" or "ASU Online Orientation"
  3. Then click on "Click here to select a class and register"
  4. You will see past and future start dates for ASU Online Orientation. Select a course taking place several weeks prior to your first day of classes at ASU.
  5. Please note that the ASU 11 or ASU 42 class you choose should be added to your schedule at least one week prior to the start date of the class.
  6. Make a note of the 5-digit Class # in the left-hand column. Click “Add” next to the orientation you want to participate in and follow the steps to add the class to your schedule – continue to click the “Proceed to” button at the bottom until you complete Step 3.
  7. Check to see if "ASU 11" or "SU 42" depending on which class you enrolled in, is listed in your "My Classes" box in the top left corner of My ASU.

Participate in ASU Online orientation

Orientation can be completed in as little as six hours, however, the course will be open for an entire week, allowing you to complete the assignments with plenty of time. Be sure to participate and complete all units in order to be fully prepared to be a successful student at ASU.
